Catching Up

I haven't been too motivated to blog about our activities. I'm still grieving over the "loss" of my premiere agility partner. Shane still goes to class and shows moments of pure magnificance, which just adds to my pain.

So far this year, Miss Maggie has acquired 2 AKC Q's, 3 USDAA Q's and 4 NADAC Q's. I am still learning about her. She seems to do very well on the first run of the day and it's downhill from there. She needs to make a potty around mid morning and early afternoon or she is pokey. She loves USDAA pairs when I run with a baton in my hand.

We finally got a Down on the Table! Our first USDAA Standard Q.

Last weekend we went to a NADAC trial. I started back in NADAC after a long break when Shane was having trouble with his contacts as you can train in the ring. We discovered that Shane was fantastic as Weavers and Tunnels and it brought so much joy to me. Since his eyesight was fading and he was becoming more reactive, I had to stop entering him in trials, which broke my heart. When Maggie was too pokey to Q in Tunnels on Saturday, I just crumbled into a sobbing mess. Tunnels was my favorite class to run with Shane. This was not fun anymore. There is no point doing NADAC with a dog with no drive. On Sunday, we did a couple of runs and left before Tunnels. She managed to get her first Chances Q, which was huge. Still not worth the heartache.

So this weekend we head back to USDAA for what may be our last trial. We'll see how she does. I'm bringing Shane to see if that helps her confidence. We will probably just do AKC from now on. Two runs and we get to go home. Maggie will like that.

A Good Start to 2012
