Last year I took Maggie and Shane to McGregor for a NADAC show. Maggie did very well Friday night. Saturday, she seemed pokey and Sunday she just froze at the start line and would not move. She did OK when we stayed home, so I attributed it to being away from home. So for the next year, we just did local shows. I did not want to spend money on traveling if Maggie was not going to perform.
For some reason, I was drawn to the show in San Antonio. I planned on driving down Saturday morning and just staying one night. It wouldn't cost very much and I could see if Maggie had overcome her problem with traveling. I got a roommate, so we decided to just go down Friday night and spend two nights. Since it was so cheap, I was willing to give it a try.
Saturday morning, Maggie was flying in Standard. She skipped a couple of weave poles, but she was running. I was so worried because the arena is very large, noisy, and bright. I loved it, but I thought it might be too overwhelming for her. We started doing well in JWW, but Maggie bolted from me to run to the side of the arena to sniff something. I got her back, but we took too much time.
Sunday, she was flying in Standard, but I failed to support two jumps. She did the weaves very well so I was pretty bummed. In JWW, she was pokey again and we were over time.
So we came home empty handed but happy that we can now travel if we want.
