Feelin' Hot Hot Hot

Went to a NADAC trial in College Station this past weekend. Arrived Friday 4pm at the height of the heat. Threw my crates in the building and headed for the hotel. Dinner with the girls, poop the dogs, and crash. Hot.

Up early Saturday and it's still hot. Poop the dogs. Grab a Starbucks and head for the show. First run of the day is Weavers. The DeMar dogs can weave baby! Shane got a 1st place Q and Maggie got a 2nd place Q.

Maggie's Weavers Run - Steady as She Goes

Great way to start the day. Maggie did great in Jumpers and got a 2nd place Q. Shane knocked a couple of bars in Jumpers, but it was still pretty good for him.
Maggie's Jumpers Run
Maggie got stuck on all the contact obstacles and went way over time for the rest of the day, until Hoopers. I ran Shane in Hoopers first and picked a lousy course, but by the time Maggie ran, I had worked out a much better one and she got 3rd place. Shane got a Regular 1st place Q so he was able to keep the bars up for one run.

Saturday morning was hard for me because I felt really dizzy and a bit nauseas. I didn't sleep well, so I figured it was either that or the crappy breakfast at the hotel. At lunch, I chugged a beverage while waiting for my order and felt instantly better. Dehydration. So I drank a load of water the rest of the afternoon and felt much better. I was sweating like crazy and didn't even think to drink a Gatorade. Saturday night, I ate dinner in the room and watched a movie. Took the dogs out to poop and hit the sack. Still hot.

Didn't sleep well again. Up early Sunday. Tried to poop the dogs and nothing. Still hot. Grab a Starbucks and head for the show. Felt like crap all day. Shane finally pooped, but Maggie didn't poop again like the last show. This time I didn't worry about it, but I could tell it was affecting her performance. She was slower than molasses and didn't Q all day. During one run I could tell she finally relaxed and she tore across the dog walk with her tail wagging. After the last jump, she just jumped in the air and wiggled with joy. It did my heart good to see her so happy to be there. Most of the day she seemed spooked by all the other dogs and the noise. It was a great moment.

Gained a little insight into Shane's behavior. Saturday morning, we left the arena to go poop and Shane was barking, growling, and lunging at everything. As soon as he pooped, he relaxed and became quite pleasant. Sunday, his poop was a little soft and he stayed belligerent all day. I'm thinking he had a bad belly from the previous day's treats. I'm going to have to manage his digestive system at trials. Also, got some advice about Maggie's stress resulting in her not pooping. Someone told me to feed her watermelon, which I'm going to try next time.

So because Shane was out of sorts all day, he managed just one 1st place Q in Regular. Kept the bars up! I think the supplement is helping, but I won't know until his checkup in January. We even blew Tunnelers, which is his best class. He was just running around in circles. I felt like crap, so I wasn't at the top of my game either. Again, why didn't I think to get Gatorade! I drank so much water that I spent most of the day in the bathroom.

So basically, all the DeMars had bad bellies this weekend, but we still managed to earn a few ribbons.
