Friday, we picked up a good friend, Liz, and went to lunch. This was the first time I'd taken Shane to a restaurant and I was a bit nervous, but he did great. There was a baby carriage next to us and Shane just sat there while we ate. I was so proud and relieved. On to the show. I wanted to set up my stuff and just walk Shane around a bit without the pressure of having to perform. Again, he did great. I was feeling pretty good when we left.
Saturday was pretty special. A few people remarked at how calm Shane was. We had a few slip ups when I wasn't watching him, but it wasn't bad. Our jumpers run was great, but I tried a move that didn't work so well so we didn't qualify. Standard was a hot mess as usual. I stopped the run after he jumped off the teeter. The noise level was low in both rings, so I have to rule that out as an issue. I think he just gets too excited when he sees all the equipment jammed together. At class, things are pretty spread out and the fence is also far away.
Sunday went well too. Our jumpers run was magnificent except we knocked a bar or two. At the end of the run, Shane came right to me. A few people complimented us on the run. Felt really good. Standard sucked again. I stopped the run after the dog walk. I just get too scared when he gets nuts. I'm not sure what he'll do and I can't risk it.
So no qualifying runs, but learned a lot. We have a NADAC show this coming weekend and I plan to work on our start line. It'll be interesting to see how Shane behaves since the obstacles will be more spread out.
