I took Shane to the vet this morning for neutering. I've gone back and forth on this issue for quite some time. Shane has been challenging Jake and Woody since day 1. For whatever reason, Shane and Woody worked something out very early on, and Shane leaves him alone. Jake is an entirely different story. Shane tries and tries to get Jake to play with him, but Jake won't have it. It looks like Shane is tormenting him, but I can tell it's just that he wants to play. Jake and Woody are 10 and don't want to play. They actually never did play, even at day care when they were younger.
In the past few weeks, the play has been getting more intense. Shane has started to growl and I've broken up several fights. I guess that signaled the right time for the surgery. I know that Shane is now the alpha dog and have been treating him as such, but I'm hoping the surgery will tone down his aggression a bit. I must be so hard to live with such old men. I picture Johnny Rotten living with the Grateful Dead and how frustrating that would be for both parties.
11 am
Sitting here at my desk waiting for the call. I just hope he doesn't hold this against me.
Noon
Called the vet. Shane is resting comfortably on a giant cushion super high on morphine. Poor baby. Picking him up at 3:00.
4 pm
Shane is here sitting at my feet. The vet said he was a doll. Perfect blood work and smooth surgery. When I brought Shane in the door, Woody dove right into Shane's crotch as if he was looking to see if they were finally gone. Shane ran outside and took a giant dump, and now wants to play. I'm supposed to keep him quiet? Will be a fun evening.
4:13 pm
Shane takes another giant dump in the living room. The back door is wide open. Man.
6:30 pm
Shane didn't want his dinner, but growled at Jake anyway. He's down for the count.
