July 4th, 2007

This is the first uneventful July 4th we've experienced since we got Jake in 1997. We lived previously in Phoenix and Delray Beach, both which had a lot of fireworks activity. In Delray Beach, our neighbors across the canal shot off rockets almost every weekend. On July 4th and New Year's eve, they went nuts. So every July 4th and New Year's eve, I was covered in shelties trying to calm everyone down. Here I am on New Year's eve 2004, cradling Jake and Woody. The Rescue Remedy has kicked in by now, because they were standing on me.

This year, our 4th started out nicely with a training class. The rain held off until class was over, but it rained the rest of the day. So tired of wet dogs, and it's supposed to keep raining over the weekend. The rain did let up enough for us to barbeque our dinner and walk the dogs.

This year I planned ahead and gave Rescue Remedy to the boys after dinner. Fireworks are banned in our development, so there wasn't too much noise. We were watching Soprano reruns, so the gun shots on the TV probably masked the few firecrackers outside. I sort of missed hugging the shelties....
