Let's Give Her Something to Blog About

A little mystery to figure out.....

Wasn't sure what I was going to write about this weekend because the week was pretty unremarkable. Both dogs did great in agility class. Shane was a star in behavior class. Our walks were great. Everyone was great.

So today. Frank and I spent the morning finishing up our planting in the backyard. Maggie had been pretty riled up because I'm sure we were digging where she'd buried some bones. She raced around the yard, tearing though our piles of dirt, and barking at our endeavors. I was so relieved to be finishing up this task that I wasn't paying any attention to the dogs.

We ended up with a lot of rocks and dirt, so I came up with the idea to toss it all under the deck. I threw the rocks and Frank flung the dirt. We cleaned up our tools and put them in the garage. We made several trips. Frank decided to do a little work in the garage and I heard the door open.

I was working at my computer when Frank came in to tell me that he needed another tool to do his task. He asked me if I had seen Maggie. "No." We both got up and looked all over the house. I opened every closet. Looked under the bed. Frank even checked in the washer and dryer. Back outside I checked the fence to see if she had dug out. The only way I thought she could have gotten out of the house was if she snuck into the garage while we were cleaning up and then got out when Frank opened the garage door.

I grabbed treats and a leash and started out on our daily walk. Halfway home, Frank pulls up in his car and tells me the neighbor girls saw something black running down the road. He heads back into the gated community and I continue on our walk path. We both make it home. Looked all over again. I post a missing dog on the Steiner Ranch HOA web site and Frank makes flyers. We both head out again.

I stop back home and grab my cell. This time I'm going back into the trails. My neighborhood has a fence around most of it, but you can get out onto the trails. I'm yelling and yelling. Halfway through the trail, my cell phone rings. Frank got home and found Maggie on the sofa. What the what?

The only thing I could come up with was that she was under the deck when we decided to throw the leftover rocks and dirt under the deck. I hope I didn't hit her with a rock, but we may have startled her enough for her to hide for a few hours. Both Frank and I had checked under the deck a few times. He even shone a flashlight to see if she was under there.

This adventure took about 2 hours. I'm exhausted.
