Friday, I drove Shane down to the show to just chill and walk around. We spent some time outside playing games. He seemed a little excited at seeing the other dogs and moving cars. We walked down the road quite a long way making sure he was focused on me. We made it inside the building and walked around the arena a few times. Shane was magnificent.
At one point, I was standing next to the practice jump talking to some friends and Shane sat quietly by my side. No way I could have done that a year ago. We also walked past several border collies and barking dogs in crates. I felt really good.
I woke up at 5:30 Saturday morning. Made some coffee and got dressed. Ready to leave the house at 6:30 and CRACK! A thunderstorm! Made a snap decision to forfeit a run and wait out the storm. I didn't want Shane to be in the car during a thunderstorm. The storm passed and we headed out. Got to the venue just as the class was ending. Oh well.
Our first run was JWW. I had a few friends blocking the exit for me, but I decided to end the run at the tunnel. Up to that point, Shane was calm and jumped perfectly. I did not want to risk Shane running off, so we stopped.
It was so freaking cold outside that I didn't get to walk Shane around as much as I wanted. I also didn't bring any of his supplements with me. I won't make that mistake again. His last run was STD, and he started off badly. He jumped off the teeter and dog walk. I stopped the run at the table. He was way too excited.
It's so ironic. While we were waiting to run, all the other handlers were doing their very best to get their dogs excited while I was trying to do just the opposite. Their dogs are slow, but Q, yet they seem envious of my fast dog. I'd much rather have their problem.
