I started agility in 1999 as a means to tire out my hyperactive shelties. Not knowing anything, I didn't know that the training classes were shit. My backyard was gravel and a pool and there wasn't a practice field, so we had nowhere to practice. I spent 4 years in Novice with Jake and Woody. Now I get a dog for the specific purpose of agility, and we are in the same boat. Except this time the training classes are primo, and I have a backyard and a practice field. Now I have a dog that is just plain nuts. I wanted a fast dog, and I got what I asked for, but it came with a lot of baggage.
This weekend, Shane did very well in the JWW ring, which was at the quiet end of the building. In our Saturday run, he knocked the double because I hesitated for a nanosecond. At the end of the run, he looked like he was going to run out, but a man was standing in his way, so he stopped. Still that look of fear in his eyes. On Sunday, we qualified, but he ran back into the course before I was able to catch him. Judge let that one slide by.
The Standard ring was at the noisier end of the building. In the Saturday run, the teeter was the second obstacle, which Shane just flew off of. I should have stopped him, but I didn't. We just kept going. He was nuts as usual. Started after a dog at the end of the run, but I got him to stop. Not a good day. On Sunday, the tire was the second obstacle, and Shane tripped and fell on his face. We ended it there. I think he was in a hurry to get to the Aframe and jumped too soon.
Made the appointment for the chiropractor today and also one to get his hips X-rayed. I have to know if something is wrong. Why does he rely on his front legs so much.
We'll go to class this week and Shane will be magnificent. Why can't it happen in the ring as well.
