Jumpin' Jack Flash

By Friday, I thought I had killed Shane. Three solid days of agility classes. One session with a behaviorist. New techniques used on our walks. New challenges at agility class. Meeting lots of new dogs. On Friday, Shane just laid around staring at me. Poor little thing. I just let him be. Saturday afternoon, he rushed into my office with his Frisbee. I think he's back. I didn't kill my dog!

No more look at me
So I had been using the technique of Watch Me to get Shane past his triggers on our walks. It hadn't been working too well, except with cars. He still has an issue with dogs. So our new trainer wants me to use Look At That and it's working! I'm sure our walks were pretty stressful for the first few times, but now I think Shane knows what is going on. Out other homework assignment is to work on getting our commands more quickly. Her assessment was that Shane makes too many of his own decisions. Good stuff.

Making New Friends
Our other issue is Shane's shyness. He always was good around other dogs, but apparently his shyness adds to his reactivity. My agility trainer brought out his border collies to be on the field during our class and Shane finally exhibited his show behavior by jumping off the A frame. We worked on that for a bit and Shane seemed more comfortable. After agility class, we went into the playground at the kennel and interacted with other dogs. Shane did great.

Can't Jump Don't Ask Me
Shane is doing much better with his jumping, but is still jumping from his front legs when he stops thinking about it. So back to jump shoots. Friday, Shane was still gathering himself between jumps. No bouncing. I figured he was pooped. When Shane came to me on Saturday with his Frisbee, I figured he was back. Outside, he bounced between the jumps! I cheered I don't know how long. We did it again and again! Bounced every time. What a dog!
