This spring, I noticed the little bird again, but this time she was building a nest on the little ledge. She caught my attention because I noticed bird poop on the front stoop as I was leaving to walk Shane and Woody. Looking up, I spotted the nest.
We could see the nest out our front window if you crouched down on the steps to the second floor. We waited and waited, and finally saw the little heads pop up to receive mom's food. Our organic pest control guy told us it was a swallows nest, so I did some research and learned that they eat bugs that fly, so maybe that explains why we have no mosquitoes.
Over this past weekend, the babies flew away, but were back by nightfall. As we came home from our nightly walk, the babies were on the upstairs window ledges to greet us. I imagine one day soon they will be gone for good. Hopefully, they will be back next year, but there isn't room on that ledge for too many nests.
