Cold and raining here in Texas. Haven't practiced all week except for class Thursday morning. Took Shane to the vet on Thursday for a lepto booster. Asked the vet about relaxation tips. He wants me to start with acupressure, which I've been doing to no avail. If that doesn't work, he suggests acupuncture. Not sure how that will help me at a show. How lucky am I to get a vet into homeopathic techniques! I want some drugs dammit. Anyway, he mentioned thiamine, which he says they give to horses right before they go into the rodeo ring. So I found a supplement with B1 in it and am anxiously waiting for it to be delivered. He said any of the serious calming drugs would slow Shane down, and I'll save that for a last resort.
Watching him at class Thursday, I noticed he reacted to the teeter bang and fast dogs going across the dog walk, which is thunderous. It's the sound first, and then the motion. So at least now I have something specific to work on. We really have the car chasing nailed though. He stops and watches the cars, and then comes to me with a sit waiting for his treat, which now are broccoli stem and carrot coins because we have a bit of a butt. Love a dog that loves veggies! Woody just spits them out.
Found a book and DVD on reactive dogs and ordered that. Scaredy Dog. I'll let you all know how if it works.
