Shane's Homecoming

I live in Austin, Texas, and my Shane was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, so a road trip was needed. My friend, Karen, from Scottsdale, Arizona, agreed to come with me. Here we are heading out on a Tuesday morning in September of 2006. Car is packed with goodies and tunes. We are driving up the back way through Texas and Colorado.

The first day's stop is Amarillo, Texas. We drive through a lot of back country where there is no cell phone access. So what is the good of having a cell phone if there is an emergency? Texas is huge. One entire day driving and we're still in the state.

The second day takes us up through Colorado. We have lunch near Pike's Peak and visit the Garden of the Gods. Very reminiscent of Sedona. Our stay in Colorado Springs was very nice. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, Antlers Hilton Colorado Springs, which I highly recommend.

The next day we head to the breeder to pick up my new baby, Shane. I found him through the PerfShelties Yahoo group. His father, Keen, won jumpers in Italy in 2004. I'm so excited to get a dog with so much potential. My Blues Brothers, Jake and Woody, are almost 10 and slowing down.

We overnight in Wichita, Kansas. Shane thinks Karen is his Mom and spends the night with her. I'll let him think he's with the hot blond. He'll learn soon enough that he's really going home with the brunette.
It was a fun trip and Shane finally realizes that he is mine. It's been a long time since we had a puppy in the house. I'm so excited about this little guy, you cannot imagine. We have a bright agility future together.
